Our Mission

The Billfish Research Project was founded in 2011 by Jamie Walker, owner of Frenzy Sportfishing based in Quepos, Costa Rica. Jamie has fished the prolific waters off Quepos for many years and often wondered where the billfish migrate to when they leave Quepos in May. To answer this question they have put together a team consisting of scientists from the University of South Carolina’s world renowned Baruch Institute, NOAA, as well as other resources, and initiated a research project using Pop-Up Satellite Tags (PSATs). The team hopes that their findings are ultimately used to enhance the knowledge base on the life history of pacific sailfish.

The adventure continues…!

The team’s research was conducted from the Frenzy. Custom built by Maverick Boats in Costa Rica she has proven to be the ideal platform for tagging sailfish. More about the Frenzy at www.FrenzySportfishing.com.
